The Presbyterian Church in Ireland spoke publicly at a news conference in Assembly Buildings, Belfast on 12 November to acknowledge significant failings in the central administration of its safeguarding processes. As a result, the Moderator at the time announced that he would step aside and then step down as Moderator. His immediate predecessor, Rev Dr Richard Murray, resumed the office on 1 December. The same day, Dr Murray called a Special General Assembly to meet in Belfast on 18 December.

Reports and Resolutions

The General Council is the Church’s senior decision-making body that takes any necessary decisions on behalf of the General Assembly between its meetings. At the Council's meeting on 11 December, members agreed the business of the Special General Assembly and the Report and Resolutions that Members of Assembly will discuss.
