Training for ministry

Exploring a call to ministry

Includes short films to encourage people to consider ministry – sharing stories of calling, training and serving within PCI.

Three short films have been commissioned to encourage individuals to consider whether God might be calling them into the ordained ministry of word and sacrament. They show church members how they can be instrumental in men and women discovering that calling, and give a short overview of the sorts of things ministers do.

Anyone wanting to discuss becoming a minister should speak to their own minister and contact the Rev Gordon Best, Dean of Ministerial Studies and Development via [email protected] or +44 (0)28 9020 5080.

There’s more to a minister | Animation

This animation is particularly suitable for sharing with young people as individuals or in groups such as Youth Fellowships. It gives a quick overview of the various things a minister does.

Being a minister

This short film gives a brief insight into what it's like to 'be a minister'. This film would be suitable to share with individuals who might be thinking, or be encouraged to think, about being a minister.

While not the main emphasis, it could also be shown to kirk sessions and at public worship to congregations to help members see how they might personally encourage someone to think about whether God is calling them to the ordained ministry.

Be an encourager

The video tells the personal experience of one person who became a minister. It shows how ministers, elders, other church leaders and members can identify people they know who may have the gifting to become a minister of word and sacrament. They can then encourage such men and women to develop that gifting and discover a call that God has for them into ministry.

This film is most suitable for showing to kirk sessions and congregations.
