Carlisle House
Carlisle House is a residential treatment centre in Belfast offering support to adults facing challenges with substance misuse. Established in 1992, the centre welcomes individuals aged 18 and over from the Belfast Health Trust and Northern Health Trust areas, as well as private clients.

With a focus on recovery through self-awareness and change, Carlisle House offers a range of services, advice, information, treatment programmes and ongoing support services. The centre is registered with the government regulatory body RQIA.
Our Approach
At the heart of Carlisle House is a commitment to respect, dignity and compassion. Using a Therapeutic Community Model, based on Systemic Practice Principles which include:
• working in partnership with service users and staff
• focusing on individual strengths
• exploring solutions rather than problems
• understanding behaviour in the context of family, community and society
Aims
Carlisle House aims to create an environment of respect, acceptance, honesty and openness. The centre promotes a holistic approach to treatment, using appropriate models that support meaningful change. Service users are encouraged to take an active role in their recovery journey, while staff remain committed to upholding professional standards and continuing their own professional development as part of the wider care team.

Post Programme Support
Support doesn’t stop when the residential programme ends. Carlisle House offers:
- RECONNECT Support Group: A weekly peer support group for ex-residents. A member of staff facilitates this group twice each month.
- Individual Counselling: Ongoing support available on request. It offers the opportunity to continue personal work in a safe and private environment.
- Family Therapy / Support: Helping families deal with the impact of substance misuse in a safe, supportive setting.
Information and Advice
Need to talk? Carlisle House offers a helpline service from 7am to midnight. This service is offered by experienced staff and provides support and advice to individuals or families affected by substance misuse.
We also provide an Open Morning on the first and third Tuesday of each month. This provides service users and their families with an opportunity to learn more about what we do and how to access our service.
Working in Partnership
Carlisle House is supported by Service Level Agreements with local Health Trusts and receives operational support from the Council for Social Witness, including oversight, staffing and finance management.
