Sunday Morning Ministry

Supporting children as they grow as followers of Jesus

Nearly every congregation in PCI has some form of children’s ministry on a Sunday morning, whether that’s Sunday School, Children’s Church, or both. But have we stopped to ask why we do what we do, and how effective it is in helping children grow as disciples of Jesus?

Why this resource?

This resource encourages congregations to reflect on how children learn and experience faith on Sunday mornings, both within children’s ministry programmes and as part of the wider church family in worship.

“We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done…. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.” (Psalm 78:4)

Asking the big questions

The resource helps you explore questions such as:

  • Why do we do what we do with children on Sundays?
  • What changes have taken place in recent years?
  • How can children best learn what it means to follow Jesus through what we teach and model?
  • How can we make children’s discipleship the best it can be?

The aim is not simply to offer ready‑made answers but to prompt reflection and spark ideas, from small changes to larger reviews, so that your children’s ministry continues to grow in effectiveness.
