As the sound of the final hymn from the Presbyterian Church in Ireland’s (PCI) General Assembly drifted through the doors of the Assembly Hall three weeks ago, work began on the second edition of The Review, PCI’s digital snapshot of this year’s annual gathering – which was launched today.
The Review - Out Now!
The 14-page online magazine, which is available on issuu.com, and on PCI’s website, includes news and photos from the annual gathering of ministers and elders, with embedded links that take readers to the reports and resolutions that were discussed, with additional access to more information on some of the stories.
Launching the new edition, Mark Neale, PCI’s Head of Communications said that the vast majority of people viewed the magazine via their smart phones,
“Last year we introduced a new way of communicating some of what happened at the General Assembly through The Review. Anecdotal evidence and a statistical review of how many times it was downloaded, confirmed that this new resource was not only useful, but popular.“While the July/August edition of the Presbyterian Herald goes into more detail, with further reporting coming in the September edition, The Review provides a brief summary of some of what took place over those three days in June.”
The Review
With upwards of 30 stories and 20-plus accompanying photographs and images, The Review takes in Dr Murray’s opening address as outgoing Moderator, to Dr Trevor Gribben’s installation as his successor, and his theme for the year, ‘A hope and a future in Jesus.’
There is also news of a new congregation to be admitted to the denomination, a new partnership with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (USA) and PCI’s bold vision of committing itself to establishing at least 10 newly constituted congregations and launching 10 more church planting projects in the next 10 years. Some lighter moments are also highlighted.
Launching The Review, the Acting Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev Dr David Allen commended the new edition. “The draft minutes of the General Assembly have just been published, and they are the formal record of the meeting of our highest decision-making body. As Mark has said, The Review, however, is a snapshot, not only for members of our Church, but for anyone who is interested in what took place, and what our Church seeks to do across this island of ours. I would like to thank Mark and his team for pulling together this useful and informative read.”
