Moderator Presents Cheque to RUC Benevolent Fund

Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Dixon was a visitor this week to the headquarters of the RUC Benevolent Fund where he met with its vice-chairman Mr Les Rodgers and Treasurer Mr Terry McCandless.

The Moderator was there to present a cheque for £28,000 to the Fund raised as the result of special collections held in all Presbyterian churches earlier in the year.

Dr Dixon complemented the Benevolent on the work it does in support of all police families and particularly those that have been bereaved or where an officer has retired or is disabled.

In thanking the Presbyterian Church, Mr McCandless described the special collection as a 'fantastic gesture' and said that, "it is heartening for the police 'family' to know that our work is appreciated."

In July Dr Dixon visited some of the RUC Officers injured as a result of the violence at Drumcree as well as several officers and families intimidated out of their homes.

A Photo is available of Dr Dixon presenting cheque to Mr Rodgers in front of the memorial stained glass window to all the RUC Officers who have died as a result of the civil unrest in Northern Ireland
