Moderator to Take Morning Worship in Omagh

Presbyterian Moderator Dr John Dixon has broken his holiday in England and is travelling overnight to be in Omagh tomorrow morning, Sunday 16 August, to take part in morning worship at 1st Omagh Presbyterian Church at 11.30am. (1st Omagh is situated on the main Derry/Dublin road through Omagh). He will also visit hospitals in the area and families of some of the bereaved.

Earlier tonight Dr Dixon issued the following statement.

I am totally outraged at the ruthless bombing in Omagh which has cost so many human lives and firstly I would extend the sympathy of the Presbyterian Church to the families and friends of those who have died and to the injured.

Such scandalous violence following on from the recent spate of bombings and killings cannot be allowed to continue. The full support of everyone should be given to decisive action that must now be taken by the British and Irish Governments and the security forces acting on both sides of the border to stop these terrorists who are committed to bringing death and destruction. They must not be allowed to do this anymore.

All of us hoped we had seen an end to these scenes of appalling carnage and death and I call on all Presbyterians to pray for those directly affected that they will have the faith, strength and courage to cope with the consequences of this devastating act.
