Dr John Dunlop, speaking on behalf of the Moderator who is overseas on Church business issued the following statement about the murder of Mr Cyril Stewart.
I wish to convey the sympathy of the Presbyterian Church to the family and friends of Mr Cyril Stewart who was murdered last night in Armagh. The ruthless and savage killing of Mr Stewart is morally wrong and is to be totally condemned.
Those operating this policy of killing people are attacking the whole community. We don't want the future of this land to be determined by gunmen and bombers. They must not be allowed to deflect those seeking a fair and reasonable accommodation in the interests of the overwhelming majority of people.
