Moderator Urges Talks Teams to Reopen Deliberations

The Presbyterian Moderator Dr Sam Hutchinson issued the following statement with regard to the resumption of talks at Stormont.

In recent weeks violent incidents cast a menacing shadow over our entire community and our hopes for peace.

Despite that, the Stormont negotiations are due to resume on Monday. I am encouraged by that, and by the evident wish of so many in Northern Ireland that definite progress should now be made towards an agreement.

Those who go back to the talks table have an extremely difficult and responsible task, with many formidable hurdles still to be surmounted. I would, however, encourage them to reopen their deliberations with determination and a will to succeed.

These talks, and those involved in them, carry a vital hope for the future. I therefore ask for constant prayer that God will grant the participants the wisdom, courage and patience needed to negotiate a better future for us all.

I hope that many will join me in praying for the talks, for those who sit round the table, and for a true and lasting peace in this land.
