Presbyterian Moderator Dr Stafford Carson believes that an initial distribution of money to PMS savers planned by the Administrator will begin to ease the distress that many are experiencing.
Responding the Administrator's report published today, 18 December, the Moderator said, "I am pleased that in the latest report from the Administrator of the Presbyterian Mutual Society he indicates his desire to make an initial distribution of money to savers in the society.
"This should help begin to alleviate some of the increasing problems that many are experiencing through having had no access to their savings for over a year.
"Like the Administrator and thousands of savers I continue to wait for the report of the government working group. I still believe this route offers the best possible resolution of the matter.
"While I recognise that much has been done to resolve this complex issue I would again call on the group to continue to proceed with their activities with the utmost urgency to bring an end to the uncertainty that many are experiencing.
"We continue to be concerned at the high level of fear and anxiety that exists among savers, especially those who are older. I hope that any distribution of funds will be made in a fair and just way.
"We call on the church to continue to pray for all who are in distress, and to pray for members of the Working Group as well as the Administrator and his staff as they discharge their responsibilities."
