The Presbyterian Women's Association

Email: pwa@presbyterianireland.org

PWA has 470 branches with approximately 14,000 members.

The Purpose of the Association is:

  • to unite the women of the Church in the dedication of their lives to Jesus Christ and his service, in the home, the workplace, the community and the Church;
  • to share in the mission of the Church at home and overseas through thought, prayer and financial support;
  • to provide a link with the women of other Churches in Ireland and throughout the world.

The administrative work of PWA, including the Wider World publication, is carried out in Church House where staff in the office keep members up-to-date with all aspects of PWA. The staff undertake a range of clerical and administrative duties including the deputation diary for deaconesses.

PWA supports missionaries and deaconesses by paying a grant to the Board of Mission Overseas and the Board of Mission in Ireland.

Deaconesses are called to serve by the Board of Mission in Ireland. They work in Congregations, hospitals and communities. This work is run in conjunction with the Board of Mission in Ireland and in connection with PWA.

PWA also supports the work of South Belfast Friendship House, in connection with the Board of Social Witness.

Young Women's Groups of the PWA

YWG has 60 groups with approximately 1200 members.

Aim: To unite the members in friendship and service within congregation and community, and to encourage Christian living. Through balanced programme planning, members should be encouraged to take an interest in the wider outreach of the Church.
